On 20-21 January 2014 the Center held a
conference on “Evidence-Based Practice in Mental Health Care: From Knowledge to
Practice.” Over 150 nurses from all over Thailand attended this conference.
Expert specialists from Thailand and abroad lectured on topics that ranged from
evidence-driven practice and policy, family-focused practice in mental health
care, best practices in mental health care across the lifespan, best practices
for caring for people with depression, and community mental health care models
in Thailand and Taiwan. Participants
remarked on how they were able to update their knowledge and skills and
requested that the conference be held annually.
Assistant Professor Sombat Skulphan hosts a
weekly community radio program on 92.25 mHz FM on mental health enhancement and
mental illness prevention. The program
features a new topic each week and listeners can call in to ask questions and
seek advice. FON bachelor students have opportunities to assist with the radio
program.
MHCC is submitting a proposal to FON to fund a
study to collect preliminary data on the use of evidence-based practice in
mental health in Thailand. The first phase of the study will focus on 17
provinces in Northern Thailand. Psychiatric nurses will be surveyed on their
attitudes, knowledge and practice pertaining to evidence-based methods.
